  • Half Marathon on course for new record

    The third annual EDF Birmingham Half Marathon on is on course to beat last year’s figure of 12,000 runners with entries already past the 5,000 mark. And six amateur runners who completed the 13.1-mile course last year have joined forces urging more people than ever to sign-up for the October 24 event.
  • Religious festival in Birmingham this weekend

    Devotees from the International Society for Krishna Consciousness will be presenting the tenth annual Jagannath Rathyatra procession in the city centre.
  • Two warring crime families have cost taxpayers £37million

    The inner-city gangsters, including members of Birmingham’s notorious Johnson Crew and the Burger Bar Boys, have been plundering the public purse for three generations, running up the huge bill for prison, health and probation costs for more than 30 years.
  • Two dead in Highgate blaze

    The dead are believed to be male but the bodies were so badly burned that they have not yet been identified. The first body was found by firefighters as they battled against flames which ravaged the houses in Moseley Road, Highgate, early yesterday morning. A second body was discovered at 4pm.
  • Chris Tarrant to be the next celebrity to be honoured in the Broad Street Walk of Stars

    The 63-year-old host of popular TV quiz Who Wants To Be A Millionaire will receive his star next month. Tarrant, who was born in Reading, Berkshire, has strong connections with the West Midlands having been educated in Worcester and then studying English at the University of Birmingham.
