The city centre news for July 6:

  • West Midlands Police boost officers on Birmingham’s Broad Street and claim it will save them money

    POLICE chiefs are to boost the numbers of officers patrolling Birmingham Golden Mile of pubs and clubs – and claim it will actually save them money. According to West Midlands Police, a re-organisation in shift patterns means that it will no longer be necessary to pay overtime to bobbies to pound Broad Street at the weekend.
  • Birmingham city centre hotel gets go ahead

    The development includes an 88 bed Travelodge hotel and a 4,000 sq ft Tesco Express on the ground floor. It will be situated on the former Marks and Spencer car park in Carrs Lane, Birmingham.
  • Musical chairs On The Buses

    Passengers across South and West Birmingham face major changes to their bus services later this month – and despite claims to the contrary by Centro and National Express, Kevin Chapman of the West Midlands Campaign for Better Transport believes the plan amountS to “a chaotic game of musical chairs” that will leave many passengers with a poorer service.
