City centre news for August 3:
- Chao Baby takes last restaurant at Bullring’s Spiceal Street – The Thai-banquet style restaurant, owned by the Chaophraya restaurant group, will be the first of the group’s restaurant to open in the Midlands and its fifth in the UK. The 4,250 sq ft restaurant, which will cover two floors, will offer the a la carte dining of Chaophraya on the upper level and the Thai street market style of Chao Baby on the lower level. The restaurant will also feature the brand’s signature jellyfish tank and open kitchen.
- Birmingham Bullring market traders vow to fight closure threat – ANGRY market traders vowed to fight any attempts to run them out of Birmingham city centre in a move they described as ‘social cleansing’. The outdoor market retailers, who trade from pitches in the shadow of St Martin’s Church in the Bull Ring, fear that plans to move the neighbouring wholesale market out within two years will have a crippling effect on their own businesses.
