A very unpleasant summer for Netflix

After a hugely successful first half of 2020 for Netflix, helped by the health and containment crisis, where during this period the streaming service attracted over 25.9 million new subscribers, Netflix claims to have won just 2.2 million subscribers over the past summer.

This number is well below your own expectations. The music giant’s goal was to gain just over 2.5 million subscribers between July and September. The group expects subscriber growth to slow down with the resumption of social life. “People who haven’t joined Netflix the entire block are unlikely to do so afterwards,” the company confirmed.

In total, Netflix now has 195.15 million paying subscribers worldwide. The service expects to surpass the 200 million mark in the current quarter. The goal is to gain 6 million subscribers to reach 201.15 million paying subscribers in total.

The number of new subscribers this summer discourages Netflix

In terms of finances, Netflix had a turnover of $ 6.44 billion, but its net profit is $ 790 million. A year ago, revenues were $ 5.25 billion and profits were $ 665 million.

Netflix shares fell 5.71% after the session to $ 495.40. The markets have appreciated on average as the results are below expectations.
