After releasing version 8.0 in mid-October, Sony released a new firmware update for the PlayStation 4, which is version number 8.01. Sony’s official changelog talks about a 479MB update but doesn’t appear to have any new features.
Here’s what Sony says about the new update:
This system software update improves system performance.
That is, there was over 470MB to improve system performance.
PlayStation 4 8.01 is now available for download
Although this does not bring anything new, know that it is a compulsory download, and without it you will not be able to play online.
Unfortunately, there appear to be several gamers reporting on the PS4 subreddit that this latest firmware update is causing them problems. Some mentioned that the console just stopped turning on after updating and some reported that the system patch failed in the installation process.
For me personally, I downloaded and installed the new update without any issues, but if there are any reports of issues, I think we should be aware of it.
If you have already installed this version on your PlayStation 4, don’t forget to give us your feedback: did it go well or did it go wrong? Have you noticed any improvement in console performance like Sony says? I didn’t notice any difference.
