One of the oldest musicals in West End and Broadway history, the London production of Cats had its world premiere at the New London Theater in 1981, where it remained on stage for an unprecedented 21 years in about 9000 shows. In 1983, the Broadway production received seven Tony Awards, including Best Musical, and was on the stage for 18 years. The new film adaptation is guided by choreographer Andy Blankenbuehler (Hamilton: An American Musical, In the Heights, Bandstand), who also choreographed the Cats stage renovation in 2016.
