Dama’s Gambito, or with the original title, The Queen’s Gambit, is a miniseries adapted from the novel of the same name by Walter Tevis, which now debuts on the Netflix platform. It’s a psychological thriller that accompanies the rise of a young chess prodigy, who goes from the status of a simple orphan to the world stage.
In a Kentucky orphanage in the 1950s, Beth Harmon (Taylor-Joy) discovers that she has an innate talent for chess, where in addition to duels on the board, she struggles with an addiction. In an age when sport was dominated by men, genius came at a price. With its apparent success comes a dangerous addition to tranquilizers that induce hallucinations.
The miniseries, directed by Scott Frank and co-created with Allan Scott, has seven episodes, and the cast also includes Harry Melling, Thomas Brodie-Sangster, Chloe Pirrie, Marielle Heller and Bill Camp.

In addition to Xadrex, the character also developed an addiction to tranquilizers, which were used as sedatives for children. “Haunted by your personal demons and fueled by a cocktail of narcotics and obsession,” says the Netflix synopsis.
The episodes follow their trajectory from 8 to 22 years old and depict their struggle against addictions in search of the top of the world chess ranking.
