Several HP laptops with Windows 10 are affected by certain performance and battery life degradation issues. For this reason, HP and Microsoft have worked together to resolve an issue which in some cases is serious as the cause of the swelling batteries. After several hours of work, it was concluded that the problem could be with the HP Battery Health Manager, but luckily companies have prepared KB4583263 to help alleviate these issues.
Speaking of this update, Microsoft says:
“Microsoft is working with HP to distribute a solution to resolve a configuration issue in HP Battery Health Manager on certain HP business notebooks that could affect battery life and performance. This update does not require a restart to take effect. “
More information on the battery issue can be found in the HP Knowledge Base (here), as well as in a customer notice.
KB4583263 should be installed by anyone with an HP laptop with Windows 10
This KB4583263 is an optional update that can be installed through Windows Update, Microsoft Update, or the Microsoft Update Catalog. HP points out that the update will only be visible to systems that really need it, saying that:
“Windows 10 Update KB4583263 only affects systems that already have HP Battery Health Manager in the BIOS. KB4583263 will not update the BIOS.”
As such, and if you have an HP notebook, it is best to check that you don’t have this update to do, because from the description it seems really important to install it.
