After Bethesda, which was one of the biggest purchases ever for Xbox, there is now information that Microsoft is now interested in acquiring some Japanese studios. According to Bloomberg’s advance, the group has already contacted several studios in the Asian country with the idea of acquiring them. And if that happens, it will be beneficial for Xbox gamers.
One of the studios approached was Koei Tecmo. Its chairman, Hisashi Koinuma, is looking forward to launching more games for the Xbox, provided Microsoft shows interest in Japan, but it has not been clarified whether it will agree to an acquisition by Microsoft.
Jeremy Hinton, Xbox Asia Operations Director, did not comment on this specific case. However, he says Microsoft is still open to discussions with new studios. He indicates that this may lead to acquisitions, but specifies that there are no announcements to be made today.
Xbox may acquire some Japanese studios
Japan’s interest in Microsoft is twofold. First of all, it is the base of its biggest competitor, Sony, since it is a Japanese company. And another is the fact that Microsoft is going through a rough time in Japan, Xbox sales are ridiculous there, especially compared to the PlayStation and Nintendo Switch. Microsoft could therefore seduce the Japanese with games of their choice available only for the Xbox.
