Netflix has announced the start of production in Munich, a spy thriller starring Jeremy Irons. This film is based on the book of the same name by Robert Harris. However, the streaming giant has announced that the film has already been shot in Germany, that it will also be shot in the UK and that it will only be available during the year 2021, but still without an exact date.
Munich took place in the fall of 1938 and Europe was on the brink of war. Adolf Hitler is preparing to invade Czechoslovakia and the government of Neville Chamberlain is desperate for a peaceful solution. With the building under pressure, British civil servant Hugh Legat and German diplomat Paul von Hartmann travel to Munich for the emergency conference. When negotiations begin, the two old friends find themselves at the center of a web of political subterfuge and very real dangers. Under the observation of the whole world, can war be avoided and, if so, at what cost?
Munich debuts on Netflix in 2021 with Jeremy Irons in the lead role
In addition to Jeremy Irons who plays Neville Chamberlain, other well-known names have been confirmed, such as George McKay (Hugh Legat), Jannis Niehwöhner (Paul Hartman), Sandra Hüller (Helen Winter), Liv Lisa Fries (Lenya), August Diehl (Franz Sauer), Erin Doherty (Pamela Legat) and Martin Wuttke who will play the role of Adolf Hitler.
Asked to talk about this film based on his book, Robert Harris says:
“It’s great to see an actor of Jeremy Irons’ stature play Neville Chamberlain. This will be the first time that a great movie has gone beyond the cult of Winston Churchill and attempt to show Chamberlain in a more sympathetic way.”
