We all know that the Xbox Series X has a 1TB SSD, but the actual storage capacity left for the user is around 802GB. This is more than enough for many gamers, but not in the end. all for others, given the size of recent games, and it will likely be even worse with next gen titles.
We also already know that the new consoles will support an NVMe plug-in (which we can see in the image below), but this is a rather expensive solution, since the unit that was officially announced until ‘now costs around 270 euros, with 1TB of storage.
Fortunately, there is yet another solution to expand the storage of these consoles which is external storage, which while not presenting the same speed as the other possibilities, can be a solution to use. According to what is revealed, an external drive can be used in the Xbox Series X, and it must have a USB 3.0 interface and a minimum storage capacity of 128 GB.
Xbox series supports USB 3.0 external drives of at least 128 GB
This should allow you to store a few dozen more games and, above all, at a lower cost. Currently, it’s easy to find 1TB on the market with the minimum specs, for around $ 45, and 2TB for $ 65 or even 4TB for $ 105, which is a pretty good value. However, players will need to be aware that load times will be hit hard.
Let’s wait and see what Sony says about this situation because your console can take advantage of it, because unlike the Xbox Series X and S, the PlayStation 5 has a USB Type C port, which on theory allows for speeds of faster reading and writing.
Xbox Series X and Series S will be available from November 10. And while the S series is on sale for € 299.99, the X series costs € 499.99.
